Stray thought:
What can Merchants learn when they view reconciliation, exceptions, and operational decision-making from the Issuer side of the payments ecosystem?
Payment Operations Group recently published a case study that discusses that very question and it is titled:
Lessons a Merchant Could Learn from the Perspective of an Issuer
The paper examines a deep and extensive Issuer reconciliation journey and explores some of the transaction patterns, processing variations, and operational challenges that surfaced along the way.
Topics include funding timing differences, transaction sequencing, duplicate processing scenarios, reference number integrity, disconnected transaction flows, and other situations where merchant-side decisions can create unexpected impacts downstream.
One of the more interesting observations from the project was that reconciliation exceptions often point toward opportunities for process improvement, even when the root cause originates somewhere else in the payments ecosystem.
